People think Summer Love started with a bikini, but that's not true....it started with a journal. 

My journal.

The buttery pink leather journal I sewed on the machine in the house I grew up at Aruma Street, Frankston North 🩷

I was fifteen and we were going to Sorrento for a day at the beach and I couldn't find a swimsuit that covered my butt cheeks...that's the truth of it.

I’d been shopping the day before in <I won't tell you the shop name!>..and every swimsuit pant I liked in that bikini pair was a g-string...yes you read that right…...

I couldn't buy swimsuit bottoms in a shop that deliberately sells to teenagers that wasn't a g-string....and gee whiz…... I was mad. 

Why were they making clothes like that for teenagers?

I was standing in the shop with mum, going red from embarrassment as bikini after bikini got held up and scrutinised….and after seeing my discomfort, mum offhandedly said "Make one……" like it was the most natural thing in the world. 

I wasn't setting out to build a billion dollar swimwear brand…. but if I had to choose between the two options?

Buying that g-string swimwear bottom and wearing it at 15 years old to the Sorrento beach in front of all those people, or making my own swimwear to solve the problem?

Well I knew what I was going to choose, right?
