We'd made the plans..... imagined the day........and then something happened and we urgently needed to go back home, and the zoo experience never happened. Last week however, our family was back on the Sunshine Coast.... with an opportunity to return to the place we were meant to be all those months ago: The Australia Zoo. ❤️🐊 Have you ever been? And, perhaps more importantly.....did you love it? Because I will be completely honest with you: Australia Zoo was not somewhere I was initially looking forward to visiting lol!! I am a self-described cat lover. Not a crocodile lover and Australia Zoo is famously known as the home of the Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. [Steve died in 2006 while filming a wildlife documentary, leaving his beloved wife, Terri, and their children, Bindi and Robert, to continue the family’s extraordinary work.](https://www.choosealifeyou.love/i-loved-knowing-that-you-can-choose-a-life-you-love/) Perhaps because of that Crocodile Hunter legacy, I had imagined something more like a crocodile park: lots of reptiles, lots of ruggedness and rather more crocodiles than one cat-loving woman necessarily needed to see. Yet, I couldn't have been more wrong. Australia Zoo is absolutely {S T U N N I N G}. Oh my goodness. It is beautiful 🦘 It is thoughtful 🛝 It is expansive 🌏 And, above everything else, it is so completely full of love ❤️ And....I'm going to say that so far to date.... it may be the most vivid expression I've ever seen of what becomes possible when passion, purpose and profit are allowed to work together....not in competition, but in absolute harmony. From the moment we arrived, we were met by evidence of love and devotion. There were photographs. Sculptures. Stories. Signs. Playgrounds appearing just when children need to move. There were buses carrying families across the enormous grounds. There were wide paths, open lawns and shaded places to stop. There were zoo keepers walking beside animals and pausing to introduce them to visitors. We met a dingo and a wombat, and even watched an enormous snake being taken for a walk....and a swim! ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/0e/77/0e77a451-73f7-4ccf-a65b-4fe71738d4ed/content/images/2026/09/CHOOSE-A-LIFE-YOU-LOVE-ENVIRONMENT-JOURNALING-PROMPT-2.jpg) Seeing The Snake Being Taken Out For A Swim 😆 There were thoughtful bathroom facilities, places to change and feed children, familiar and fresh food choices, free play areas and animal experiences available at different prices. Each one quietly says: We thought about you. We thought about your children. We thought about how the day might feel. That is what love looks like when love becomes infrastructure. Something else I became aware of throughout the day was how the love of one man and his family who shared and continued his vision...has made such a profound difference to the lives of humans and animals alike, and especially today, with so much talk of war, violence and division, the actual word “warrior” can carry such a dark and destructive meaning. At Australia Zoo, we witnessed another meaning entirely. **The warrior as a protector.** **Fierce in purpose.** **Gentle in practice.** *Willing to stand between something(or someone) vulnerable and the forces that might destroy or harm, and doing it from a place of peace and love.* The zoo raises awareness through signs. There are conversations. There is education. There is awareness. And, most importantly, there is gentle.... firm.... and unwavering action. Research is funded. People are educated. Land is preserved so that wildlife and wild places may continue to exist beyond our own lifetime. > **The money spent on an ordinary family day out does not end with the experience itself.** It helps support something larger, and perhaps this is what first made the relationship between passion, purpose and profit feel so clear to me. > ***Profit does not always have to mean taking more. In its most beautiful expression, profit can help a vision grow.*** It can employ people who care. It can purchase land that needs protection. It can provide food, shelter and medical care. It can turn one person’s love into something strong enough to continue long after that person is gone. Land is purchased to preserve. People are trained to protect. The vulnerable are given a place to rest. I loved the clean glass in the enclosures..... the thoughtful facilities....the keepers.... the staff.... the bus rides.... and the wide-open spaces. I especially loved the beautiful grassy areas, and I soooo wanted to come back another time, find a quiet place to lie down and have a picnic and enjoying doing nothing at all!! Oh, my goodness, the macaws!!!! And the rainbow lorikeets!!!!! I was seated right at the end of the row in the Crocoseum, and it was absolutely AMAZING! It was completely unexpected, and like nothing I had ever experienced before. On a scale of 10\~ our family gave the Australia Zoo a total: 10/10\~ We Loved it!!! ❤️🫶 I will mention that the ticket prices are hefty for a family on a budget. We got a two day pass, and a family photo with the giraffe, and with lunch both days, drinks, park entry and family photo, the pricing was approx $600 for 2 x adults and 2 x children. In saying that? I 100% believe you can see where every dollar is spent, and believe the pricing is justified. We did research before we went to see if we could get a discount coupon somewhere but couldn't find one, but did read if your child had a birthday during the week of attendance, they could get free entry which I thought was quite sweet ❤️ Have you been to Australia Zoo?
