## A Little Something to Love ❤️

I am super spoilt to live on the Mornington Peninsula (Australia) so a lot of my first pieces created for CALYL have come from my own backyard, and this one at Portsea is one of my long term faves!

Recently, my love and I spent the day out and about....first at Aurora Bathhouse (which you can read about in another article upcoming soon!) and then we did lunch afterwards at the Portsea Pub.

The sun was shining, we got a gorgeous table overlooking the ocean, and to say my day was beautiful, would be an utter understatement.

Portsea has long been a favourite of mine, ever since I had an onsite caravan back what feels like 20 years ago so...(though in honesty, it's probably less!) but I do remember the kids being small, and back then, I would bring the kids down on the weekends because we were living in a tiny two bedroom flat, and the caravan park gave us some space to be free.... and so the kids would ride their bikes around the caravans, play at the playground in Sorrento, and eat ice cream and fish and chips. We would stay from Friday to Sunday, and then head back home to get ready for school the next day.

Although we didn't have a lot at that moment in our lives, and we didn’t have our little caravan for a long period of time (the land was sold to developers), I really loved our time there and remember it quite fondly 🩷

I think I've loved Sorrento and Portsea ever since then...and back in the days...I also loved the Conti pub too...but that's a whole other story too!

For now, let me tell you what I loved about the Portsea Pub when I visited recently...🩷

## The First Thing I Loved

### ❤️ OMG!!!! It's 100% got to be the view from The Longshore Room.

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/0e/77/0e77a451-73f7-4ccf-a65b-4fe71738d4ed/content/images/2026/10/38.png)

Ok.. by now I'm sure everyone knows I'm a water girl! Most of my favourite ever destinations include water, the ocean or pool!

The Longshore Room has these gorgeous bi-fold doors and a direct ocean front view, and it doesn't matter how old I am, or what my financial or social status is....every time I see that view, it literally fills my heart with joy!

In addition to the view, the Longshore Room also has this beautiful grassy area for summer and spring days too, and I love that about the Portsea Pub too. 🩵

### ❤️ 2\. The Barramundi

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/0e/77/0e77a451-73f7-4ccf-a65b-4fe71738d4ed/content/images/2026/10/41.png)

Just because you're eating at the pub, doesn't mean the food is all bad.

I chose the Barramundi, because it's one of my favourites, and this pairing on today's menu was with chat potatoes, curry and caviar.....omg <what???> yes....it's true!

Initially I was like OMG what on earth are they thinking???? But honestly, oh my goodness! It was fantastic. My fish was perfectly cooked, delicate with perfect crispy skin, the curry was a really unusual added flavour, and I was completely surprised me by how much I loved it, and the potatoes and caviar were all perfect too.

I'll be really honest here....it was not what I expected....like not at all....but I 100% loved all of it!

### ❤️ 3\. The Chicken Parma

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/0e/77/0e77a451-73f7-4ccf-a65b-4fe71738d4ed/content/images/2026/10/choose-a-life-you-love-51.png)

Ahhhh, next up was lunch for my beloved....and I feel we could create a YouTube channel travelling and sharing every chicken parma he has ever eaten, as it finds it's way into so many of his lunches and dinners more times than you would think possible!

This parma was perfect man size...(well perfect for my man lol!) had a good serve of chips and an unusual side of coleslaw (no purple cabbage which apparently was the key to success!) and also was interwoven with what we thought was seeded mustard too.

Score out of 10 for the Parma? Also another 10/10 ❤️

### ❤️ 4\. The olde worlde exterior facade

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/0e/77/0e77a451-73f7-4ccf-a65b-4fe71738d4ed/content/images/2026/10/39.png)

### A Little More History ❤️

It's hard not to fall in love with the Portsea Hotel's beautiful Tudor-style façade, with its contrasting black timber, white walls and distinctive gabled rooflines.

Established in 1876, the hotel celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2026.

But while researching its history, I discovered something I hadn't realised.

The hotel was purchased by businessman Chris Morris in 1999, and up until writing this article, I had still associated the Portsea Hotel with the Morris Group, whose [philanthropic work](https://www.morrisgroup.com.au/foundation) through the Morris Family Foundation I particularly admire.

What I didn't know was that the hotel building and land had been sold to a private property investor for $17.1 million in 2015, while the Morris Group retained the hotel operating business.

Interestingly, the Morris Group continued operating the hotel and subsequently invested approximately $7 million in its renovation in 2018.

So although the property ownership changed, the Morris connection remained.

It's a lovely reminder of how much history can sit behind a beautiful façade...... and how sometimes, the more we discover about something, the more questions we find ourselves asking.

### ❤️ 5\. The Wildcard? This Tree & The Pot Plants, though I also loved the guy painting the side walls too. It was something I never considered needing maintenance until I saw someone doing it.🩷

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/0e/77/0e77a451-73f7-4ccf-a65b-4fe71738d4ed/content/images/2026/10/40.png)

I put this image in as a wildcard, simply because it was both beautiful and absurd all at once! A big tree with a wooden deck around it, and surrounded by pot plants to keep it company.

Cute and absurd both at the same time!

I'm also going to tell you about another wildcard thing I loved? There was a man painting the side walls down the path that runs along the back.....it took a while for me to realise what he was working on...I feel like maintenance is one of those things you just don't notice....until you see the parts that haven't been painted.....I really loved having the experience of watching someone lovingly care for a 150 year old pub, that made me happy too. 🩷

## A Little Journaling Opportunity 🩷

[Today's journaling opportunity comes from our **Choose A Life You Love Holiday Home Journal (**you can buy theprint version on Amazon via CALYL's affiliate link here)](https://link.amazon/B0dYprKdf)

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/0e/77/0e77a451-73f7-4ccf-a65b-4fe71738d4ed/content/images/2026/10/affiliate-link-disclosure-1.png)

It's titled:

**Location**

And it invites us to consider what we love about the location...the environment...and the space.

***I love the location of my holiday home because:***

***I love the connection to the environment because:***

***I love being in this space because:***

A holiday home doesn't have to mean an actual "house". For some people it may be a houseboat....or a caravan....or it could be a camping or glamping tent etc....or even a favourite location (like the pub!) that you return to and adore.

There isn't one particular style of holiday home for all of us, and I think that's perfectly ok!

There's no right or wrong answer to the above journaling prompt, and if you don't have a place of your own, it's still also a wonderful opportunity to think about what you could like....or would like....if ever you got the opportunity. 🩷 🩵💛💜

## What I Loved Most ❤️

Portsea Pub Review

## What I Loved Most ❤️

Looking back at our lunch date, I think what I loved most, (apart from obviously spending time with my beloved), was that the Portsea Pub is one of those special places we both adore...and one that has stood the test of time, year after year, after year...and although sometimes having new and exciting adventures is wonderful...sometimes a little bit of nostalgia for what we already love is a good thing too!! ❤️

And that's another of my favourite things about creating Choose A Life You Love....I don't just get the opportunity to explore, discover and share new things that I love, but that I'm also blessed to be able to rediscover and share old things that I love too.

Not because everyone else needs to love them.

But because sharing things from the past, might create an opportunity for someone else to discover something they love for the future, too. 🩷
