**Mornington Peninsula Discovery | Buying Local, Community & Connection**

*A Choose A Life You Love Independent Editorial \~ Not Paid, Not Gifted, Not Hosted 💛*

> Sometimes choosing a life you love begins with something as simple as taking an unexpected turn off the road.

I absolutely LOVE discovering little places I didn't know existed.

Especially when they're close to home!

And this particular discovery was completely unplanned.

I was on my way to Mornington when I spotted a little roadside sign with a bee on it.

Pure Peninsula Honey.

Something about that little sign caught my attention.

And I thought...

"Let's see where this goes."

Literally! 😂🍯

And I'm so glad I did.

Because tucked away at 871 Derril Road in Moorooduc is the sweetest little discovery.

## A Little Honey Discovery 🍯

Beyond the roadside sign, a short unsealed driveway led me to Pure Peninsula Honey.

And what a delightful little place!

There was a micro shopfront filled with jars of honey, bee-autiful gifts and mugs.

Picnic tables in front of the lawn.

Plenty of open space.

A cheerful photo board inviting visitors to poke their heads through for a photograph.

A slide for the kids....

And even a live glass beehive!

Oh My Goodness!

I loved this!

The hive had a magnifying glass attached so visitors could look closely and see the bees working together inside their home.

What a lovely little opportunity to discover something new.

I wandered around, explored the shop and eventually chose two fresh limes for $1 and a jar of organic honey.

My total purchase?

**$13.**

And I drove away with organic honey.... limes.... and the loveliest little experience.

Sometimes it really is the smallest things that bring us joy.

## Community, Connection & Environment 💛

One of the things I particularly loved about this experience was the opportunity to buy directly from a local business.

Which of course got me thinking about where our money goes!!!

And what (or who!!) we're choosing to support when we spend it.....

Buying locally is one small way we can choose what we would like our money to support.

It might mean buying honey directly from a beekeeper.

Choosing bread from a neighbourhood bakery.

Visiting a local greengrocer.

Or stopping at a little shop simply because something about it invites us in.

And there are a few different things I love about that.

**Community ❤️**

Money spent with a local business may continue circulating through the community, supporting local work, families, suppliers and other nearby businesses.

**Small Business ❤️**

Buying directly can allow more of what we spend to reach the people who grew, made, selected or sold what we're taking home.

**Environment ❤️**

Choosing something made or grown closer to home may reduce transport distances or packaging.

Local doesn't automatically mean environmentally better, but it can offer another thoughtful choice.

**Connection ❤️**

And perhaps one of my favourite things?

Getting to see a little more of the story behind what we're buying.

Where something came from.

Who made it.

And the people behind the product.

But here's something else I think matters.

**Buying locally doesn't need to become another rule.**

The supermarket may still be the most affordable, accessible or practical choice on many days.

And that's perfectly okay.

This isn't about shopping perfectly.

It's about noticing when something aligns with our values and, when our circumstances allow, having the opportunity to choose.

> There is love in making a considered choice, and there is also love in choosing what is manageable today.

## My Little Honey Experience 🍯

I think what I particularly enjoyed about this experience was that I hadn't planned any of it.

I didn't wake up that morning thinking I needed to visit a honey farm.

I wasn't searching for something to do.

And I certainly wasn't planning to write an editorial about buying honey!

I simply saw something that interested me.

And chose to explore it.

That was it.

One tiny decision.

One unexpected little adventure.

And a lovely experience I might otherwise have driven straight past.

I love that!

Because sometimes we can become so busy getting from one place to another that we forget there might be something wonderful along the way.

And sometimes?

There is.

## Diet Journaling Prompt 💛

Today's journaling opportunity comes from our existing **Choose A Life You Love Diet Journal**.

It's titled:

### Shop of Choice

And it invites us to consider where we currently shop and where we might prefer to shop.

**The supermarket I currently shop at is...**

**I shop there because...**

**I would prefer to shop at...**

Perhaps you already love where you shop.

Perhaps convenience matters most.

Perhaps affordability is your priority.

Or perhaps there is a little local business you've been meaning to visit.

There is no right or wrong answer.

And there is certainly no particular place you need to shop.

It's simply an opportunity to explore your own thoughts, feelings and choices.

❤️

Our CALYL journals are created to offer opportunities to pause, consider and choose.

If you enjoy discovering little local businesses, this might be somewhere you'd like to explore.

During my visit, I discovered honey, bee-related gifts, picnic tables and the fascinating little glass beehive.

And, of course, I came home with my organic honey and two fresh limes!

This was an independent visit. I purchased my own products, and this editorial was not paid for, gifted or hosted.

## What I Loved Most ❤️

My Pure Peninsula Honey Review

##

For me, I loved a few different things about this experience, and like most of my journaling adventures.....it wasn't all about the honey!

I loved discovering somewhere new.

I loved the little roadside sign that caught my attention.

I loved that I could wander around and explore...though I will say this was one of my shortest outdoor experiences to date. The shop is smallish (think like a portable building) and the experience is more about enjoying supporting the business from buying direct, with an added bonus of enjoying the sun or whilst letting the kids roam around on the grassy area and playground).

I loved seeing the beehive (I'm nearly 50 and I think that was my first real look at seeing how that worked!)

I loved the thought of supporting a local business!!!

And I particularly loved that something so simple as taking 10 minutes out of my day could become such a lovely little experience.

And all simply because I chose to take a turn off the road.

And on a scale of 1–10?

**10/10 — I Loved My Little Honey Adventure! 🍯💛**

Not because it was extravagant.

Not because it cost a fortune.

And certainly not because it was something I had planned.

But because it was an opportunity to support a local farmer in my own small way.

And that's one of my fave things about creating Choose A Life You Love.

The opportunity to explore, discover and share experiences, even if they are small and tiny..... and only consist of a $13 spend.

Because sometimes in the past, I would think....oh..it's only $13...it won't make much of a difference...and yet now I realise.....a simple shout out for a business you love...a $13 spend directly with a farmer?

It's a small drip for local business, the same as we create our own small drips too. ❤️ And I think that's a really lovely thing....

not because everyone else needs to love the experience or do the same thing.

But because someone else might enjoy supporting their local produce owners too.

Maybe a local beekeeper.

Maybe a neighbourhood bakery.

Maybe a tiny shop you've driven past a hundred times.

Or perhaps something completely different!

One small discovery can open the door to another.

And I love that.

## Have You Discovered a Lovely Little Local Business? ❤️

Is there a local business you absolutely love?

A little shop?

A bakery?

A farm gate?

Or somewhere you discovered completely by accident?

I'd love to hear about it!

Feel free to leave a comment and share your discoveries with our readers below.

Perhaps your little discovery will become someone else's next adventure.
